While discussing his various projects outside of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, George R.R. Martin said, “I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.” No further details are offered, but a few months ago, rumors surfaced that George R.R. Martin was working with From Software on a video game. Now, it’s entirely possible that he is working with some other video game company based out of Japan and this is just a coincidence, but if so, it’s a strange coincidence to say the least.
To make matters even more interesting, From Software is rumored to be announcing a new game at E3 2019 in June. This rumored game is said to have a Norse mythology-inspired setting with multiple playable characters. Assuming there’s any truth to the rumors, it sounds to be firmly rooted in the dark fantasy style of Dark Souls, which would pair well with George R.R. Martin’s work.
Fans should take all of this information with a grain of salt, though George R.R. Martin’s blog post does make things a bit more interesting. On the bright side, we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out if there’s any truth to the rumors about From Software’s new game, as it’s apparently going to be announced at E3 2019 next month.
If E3 comes and goes without any new From Software game, then fans can safely write off these rumors as fake. However, the question would then remain what video game George R.R. Martin is consulting for with a company based out of Japan. For the sake of his fans, let’s hope answers come before The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring hit store shelves.
