Here’s how to use this hidden feature.
How to Turn On Background Sounds on Your iPhone
Both iPhones and iPads on iOS or iPadOS 15 have this capability. However, the only way to access the feature is through the Hearing option in the Control Center. To add it to Control Center:
Head to Settings > Control Center. Scroll down and look for Hearing, then tap the Add (+) icon.
To access the built-in ambient soundscapes on your iPhone:
Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right side of your screen if you have a Face ID or swipe up from the bottom of the screen for handsets with Touch ID. Tap the Hearing icon. Tap Background Sounds to turn it on. You can tap the current sound to choose other available sounds. Just tap a sound to preview it. Once you’ve made your choice, tap outside the popup menu and drag the slider to adjust the volume.
When turned on, the Background Sounds icon is colored blue. Simply tap the Background sounds icon again to turn it off. iPhones and iPads allow you to choose from Balanced Noise, Bright Noise, Dark Noise, Ocean, Rain, and Stream.
If you find the options limited, you may opt for other white noise iPhone apps or other ambient noise generators.
Easily Tune Out Distractions
Recent iOS upgrades continuously transform your iPhone into an all-in-one device. With just a few taps, you can use your iPhone to instantly tune out unwanted noise and distractions from the background—no third-party app needed!
